Is writing on Twitter writing?

Last year Pew published a study showing that for teenagers writing IM was'nt really writing:
"Teens write a lot, but they do not think of their emails, instant and text messages as writing. This disconnect matters because teens believe good writing is an essential skill for success and that more writing instruction at school would help them."

Is'nt writing on Twitter closer to IM than, say, on a blog? We would have a graphic inscription midway between orality and classical writing. This does not question the interest od Seed Magazine article but should push toward pluralizing the notion of writing, wich in the coming "age of writing" should not surprise.
in reference to:
"International concern for the minority who can’t read may soon extend to those who can’t publish."
